Support Directory for Trans and Gender-Diverse Youth and Families

Who this is for

This is a short list of national US services for transgender and gender-diverse young people and the people who love them. Every service below was checked on October 21, 2026. Phone numbers and hours change, so check the service's own website before you call.

If you're a young person: you can contact most of these services yourself, often anonymously. If you're a parent or caregiver: several services are just for you, because supported parents are better able to support their kids.

Transform Transwear is a clothing business, not a health or counselling service. We share this list because families often ask us where to go next.

For young people: peer and community support

The Trevor Project: as well as its crisis line, Trevor runs support for LGBTQ+ young people under 25 by phone, text and chat, all free and confidential.

LGBT National Help Center: runs the Youth Talkline (above) and moderated online chatrooms for young people aged 19 and under. Volunteers are LGBTQIA+ themselves and don't give advice; they listen and help you find local resources.

Gender Spectrum: a national organization that hosts online groups for preteens and teens who are trans, nonbinary or gender-expansive, as well as groups for their families.

Local LGBTQ+ centers: many cities have an LGBTQ+ community center with youth groups. CenterLink's directory lists more than 350 member centers. Find a center near you.

For parents and caregivers

PFLAG: a national organization for families and allies of LGBTQ+ people, with over 350 local chapters. Many chapters run support meetings for families of trans and nonbinary youth, in person or online. With Gender Spectrum, it also runs a free online Parent Community for parents and caregivers of gender-diverse children of any age. It meets on the third Monday of each month at 8pm ET / 5pm PT, and you don't need to be a PFLAG member. To find your local chapter, visit pflag.org.

Gender Spectrum: runs online peer support groups for parents and caregivers, including groups for grandparents and for parents of nonbinary and gender-questioning youth aged 24 and under. Groups are led by staff or trained volunteers and aren't therapy. It also holds an annual Family Conference.

TransFamily Support Services: a San Diego-based nonprofit offering free support and resources for trans and nonbinary youth and their families.

Health services and state laws

Start with a paediatrician or family doctor you trust. They can refer you to gender-affirming providers and mental health support.

State laws vary a lot and change often. Many states now restrict gender-affirming medical care for minors, while others have passed laws protecting access. Some state laws also affect schools, sports, bathrooms and IDs. Rules may have changed since this list was written.

Your local PFLAG chapter or LGBTQ+ center can also tell you what services are available nearby.
