Fashion has always been a powerful tool for self-expression, but for folks navigating gender identity, it can be even more significant. Clothing choices allow people to transcend societal norms and present themselves in ways that feel authentic. Whether it’s through the use of bold colours, unconventional silhouettes, or simply choosing what feels comfortable, fashion helps many of us communicate who we are before we even speak.

For many, the journey of gender expression through fashion can be both liberating and challenging. It might involve experimentation—trying on different styles to see what resonates—and it often includes confronting societal expectations. Yet, for those who embrace it, fashion can be a source of empowerment, providing a tangible way to express an inner truth that might otherwise be difficult to articulate.

In this short video, our ambassadors discuss how fashion not only allows for the exploration of gender but also offers a platform for visibility and acceptance. It can be a way to reclaim their identity, challenge traditional norms, and inspire others to do the same. Fashion, in this sense, becomes more than just an aesthetic choice; it is a form of resistance and celebration, paving the way for more inclusive conversations around gender expression.

Supporting a trans child can be a life-changing and rewarding experience, but it can also be challenging as parents and caregivers navigate new terrain. The love and guidance you provide can make all the difference in helping your child feel seen, heard, and accepted as they explore their gender identity. But how do you best support them during this journey?

In this blog post, Eli shares their tips for parents, caregivers, and loved ones who want to offer their unconditional support. From listening with empathy and respecting your child’s pronouns to advocating for their rights and providing access to affirming resources, the journey of supporting a trans child requires both patience and understanding.

We also explore the importance of fostering a safe and loving environment where your child feels comfortable expressing themselves without fear of rejection. Whether your child is just beginning to explore their gender identity or has already taken steps toward transitioning, this post offers valuable guidance on how to be an ally, advocate, and unwavering source of support.

Every step you take to affirm your child’s identity helps build their confidence and reinforces their sense of self-worth. In the end, the greatest gift you can give is unconditional love and acceptance.

It was apparent from a very young age that Eli had a maturity and self-confidence beyond their years. By self-confidence I don’t mean they were loud or showy; I mean they were robust and didn’t let many things get them down or get in their way.

These attributes meant that I always found Eli to be a good sounding board - even as a kid. Their view of the world and people in it was always calm, measured, balanced and sensible.
